Overview

HEART BEAT is a fast rhythm FPS. Everything you do has to match the beat. If you're off rhythm, you'll feel it.

The goal was to make the music feel like part of the gameplay, not just something playing in the background.

Shaders and Post Processing

The game uses a lot of shaders and post-processing. The goal was to create a sketchbook asthetic. Strong outlines, high contrast, and accent colors.

Game Art

All 2D art was made by me in Photoshop.

Audio Programming

In this game, everything follows the beat. I built a beat manager that controls the rhythm and keeps it synced with the music.

It also controls music intensity. The better the player stays on beat, the more layers of the track are added.

There are three music tracks playing at the same time. The system decides how many are audible. Everything else in the game subscribes to the beat and reacts when it happens.
